Track: Technology and Planning Services

Educatsional Expertise   Focus: Application Management Services
Program Code: 1988
LEAD PRESENTER / PANEL ORGANIZER / BOF LEADER :
Steve Johnson, Supervisor Analyst/Programmer, Wake Forest University
Description
This presentation will be about the basics of Scrum and how institutions might begin using it to help reduce risks and cut the costs associated with software projects like Banner upgrades. Originally created to help for-profit businesses to create working software faster, this Agile software development framework can be adapted to be used in any Higher Educational institution.

Participants will not only learn the foundational elements of Scrum and Agile software development techniques but they will also hear about Wake Forest Universitys experience transition to using Scrum; from hearing about it from SunGard to how we implemented it after seeing it in action in Malvern over three years ago.

Participants will also receive some specific suggestions they can take with them in order to help move their institutions closer to a more agile model. This session will be beneficial for those who are currently using the traditional waterfall development methods, are considering moving to a more agile programming model or for those who just want to learn more about Scrum.
