Description
One of the first Luminis 5 projects at Michigan Tech is a Graduate Admissions Dashboard. The portlet provides the ability to examine application counts based on a combination of dimensions such as number of applications by college/school, major, race/ethnicity, etc.
In this talk we provide an overview of the portlet and detailed overview the project; explaining what we did and why. We will discuss our meetings with stakeholders and our use of Balsamiq Mockups to flesh out the design, our use of Banner resources, user testing, lessons learned and future directions. Additionally, we will discuss the technical aspects of the project; describing how we setup our development environment and reviewing some of the interesting coding challenges encountered. We will discuss our use of Balsamiq Mockups to flesh out the design, how we interfaced with the Banner database and mined data using a dimensional warehouse, implementation of portlets using Groovy and Grails, regression testing, lessons learned and future directions.
