Description
Like many other Banner schools, Portland Community College has developed a set of point solutions to address Identity Management problems as they arose. Often, those solutions engendered discussion of process, policy, and identity definition, but much of that was repeated each time a new application needed IdM support. So we reinvented not just the technology but also much of the rationale (usually, but not always, in a consistent way).

In late 2009 we started an engagement with SGHE consisting of workshops to explore our current situation and form a future vision. We evaluated IdM software vendors and system integration contractors, and ended up choosing a multi-vendor solution with SGHE in the lead integrator role.

Our initial goal was to establish an end-to-end environment consisting of BEIS, our IdM, and Active Directory as the first targeted application.

A key part of our implementation has been to work through our business policies, role definitions, application requirements, and future considerations of enterprise-wide access management. Come hear our progress, status, and also tidbits on vendor selection and project managing a multi-vendor IdM project.
