Social scientist Bob Johansen says that we live in a VUCA worlda world characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. Dr Clayton Christensen of the Harvard Business School challenges established organizations to create disruptive innovation or risk obsolescence. A recent leadership study encourages us to radically adapt our workplaces to prepare for a world where traditional workplace hierarchies are increasingly irrelevant and inefficient.
What does all this mean for higher education and what must we, as leaders, do to anticipate and respond to a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world that requires disruptive innovation and a very different approach to campus leadership?
Learning objectives:
Understanding of what a VUCA world is and how higher education is impacted.
Understanding of the concept of disruptive innovation and implications for different types of higher education institutions and for core areas of campus expertise.
Understanding of radically shifting demographics, a radically shifting workplace and how we should manage an increasingly diverse, global workforce as demand for key talent intensifies.
