Description
In the last 6 years, George Mason University has seen the number of its undergraduate applications increase exponentially. At the same time, the need to quickly process an application and communicate a decision to an applicant has become critical in the competition for high profile students. With a slow economy resulting in budget cuts and limited personnel resources, the Office of Admissions turned to technology integration and process automation to get on the path to 100% paperless admissions. Mason implemented Document Management along with Workflow and Electronic Transcript Receipt capabilities. This has enabled Mason to quickly image almost 250,000 admissions documents per year, process over 40,000 applications, and receive over 10,000 transcripts electronically without adding additional staff. Most importantly, Mason has been able to successfully compete for high profile students demonstrated by a 0.2 jump in the average GPA of incoming freshmen over the last 6 years. This session covers the approach Mason took to achieve paperless admissions. It will cover business process changes, system infrastructure from a functional perspective, lessons learned on this path, and current efforts to process high school electronic transcripts. This session is geared to senior admissions staff including deans, directors, operations managers, and senior technologists.
