The Database Extension Utility is a tool for applying large scale database changes to Banner. The first important application of the tool is to add and enable new columns needed for Banner Horizon and Multi-Entity Processing Support. Having clients run the extension utility brings everyone to a place where all databases are in a consistent state. This known state is important, as products will begin developing their new releases under the assumption that these columns exist. In order for this to happen, at one point in the near future, applying the database extension utility will become a required step for all clients.
