At the Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA), gifted education is taught through STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) courses. The purpose of STEM education is to expose students to engineering. Through the STEM courses, students are exposed to the numerous areas of engineering and learn the engineering design process. Using the design process, students solve real-world engineering problems through project-based instruction. The STEM units of instruction are aligned with the gifted standards, have increased rigor, and encourage critical thinking. This session details the integration of STEM and gifted education and explores the STEM units taught at the school.
