Description
Early recognition and nurturing of children of promise is critical to closing the achievement gap ensuring equity within gifted education. U-STARS~PLUS, (Using Science, Talents, and Abilities to Recognize Students~Promoting Learning for Underrepresented Students) works with K-3 teachers to (a) create nurturing classrooms, (b) recognize children with high-potential, (c) engage families in academic support, (d) improve science instruction, and (e) respond to students strengths with challenging opportunities. U-STARS~PLUS fits within multi-tiered supports and services (RtI); focusing on nurturing childrens potential at the Universal (Tier I) and Targeted (Tier II) levels and building a body-of-evidence showing the childs strengths for formal identification.
