Description
This session will review the variety of behavior checklists, student-rating forms, and teacher-nominations tools used to identify gifted and talented students. Specifically, this session will focus on tools that involve teachers as part of the identification process. Participants will learn about several psychometrically strong instruments and an even larger number of less promising tools frequently used to identify children for gifted education services. Research related to successful and unsuccessful teacher nominations and ratings will also be shared with implications for practice. Teachers, administrators, program coordinators, researchers, and anyone interested in including teachers in the identification process are encouraged to attend.
