Description
Wow, those sparkling new iPads are cool, but what are you going to do with them? How will iPads, Smart Tables, Interactive Whiteboards, digital cameras, and other juicy tech tools fit into your interest centers, hands-on activities, and daily planning? How can you use them to help children progress? Will they distract the children and teachers, or enhance learning? Join this session to learn more about how to make wise decisions about integrating technology into your program. Designed for early childhood administrators and lead teachers, this session will help participants learn to make decisions about how to select and use digital tools in developmentally appropriate classrooms using practical implications of the new NAEYC technology position statement. The purpose of this presentation is to provide very concrete guidance about how to evaluate and select digital tools like multi-touch apps, online systems and websites, and software and how to integrate the use of these tools throughout the day and in learning centers to meet common preschool objectives. The presenters will use the new position statement as the backdrop for decision making. The presenters will also use the tools, suggestions, and plans offered in their book, Digital Decisions: Choosing the Right Technology Tools in Early Childhood Education(to be published by Gryphon House in spring 2012) to illustrate processes for decision making. We will provide participants with a clear process for determining whether software is appropriate, valuable and worthwhile, and will provide examples of how they might be used to meet objectives and improve outcomes.
