Description
Faculty and academic program directors are the missing link in the career development cycle. Without faculty engaged in the career process, there exists a critical gap between the ivory tower and the world of work. The most successful academic programs are ones that provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities they need to get the best jobs available in the marketplace and where faculty, program directors, and career services offices work as one. In order for American college graduates to compete in a global society, faculty must teach what employees need to know and employers must communicate to faculty what is needed in an applied curriculum. Ideally, career offices gather information from employers, then collect and digest that information for the benefit of faculty and program directors who then use that data to create curricula that give students the skills employers require. With connections to both employers and faculty, career services offices have the unique opportunity to bring the two together to engage faculty in the career process. This session will teach participants to gather and digest data, engage faculty and program directors in the employment process, and communicate those skills to employers.
