Description
In response to the economic downturn and slowdown in the job market of 2008-2009, many university career centers have taken new measures to address students' career development needs and increase the diversity, quantity, and quality of employment opportunities available to them. A comprehensive employer development plan is critical to the continued growth of employment opportunities for students and the pipeline of new talent for employers. An effective plan focuses on maintaining existing relationships as well as cultivating new ones. In this session, we will share strategies for university career centers to create and implement a cost-effective employer development plan that focuses on outreach to organizations of various sizes and sectors. We will show how to leverage new economic conditions, new technologies, and strategic internal and external relationships in order to create connection points with existing and new employers. We will also share a sample employer development plan as well as return on investment data that show the effectiveness of employer development efforts in various institutions.
