Katie McKinney is Assistant Director for Clinical Services and Research and Interim Director of Pharmacy for UC Health - University Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. McKinneys practice interests include drug information, pharmacoeconomics, safe medication practices, and pharmacy leadership.
Dr. McKinney earned her B.S. in Biology at the University of Dayton (2003), Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati (2007), and M.S. in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University (2009). She completed her Pharmacy Practice Residency and her second year specialty in Pharmacy Administration at Grant Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. McKinney serves as a reviewer for the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) monthly Nurse Advise-ERR newsletter.

Hazardous Medication Handling: Implications for Pharmacy Compounding and Identification of Alternative Therapies
- Differentiate between the health-systems Level 1 and Level 2 hazardous medications.
- Discuss the systems methodology for identification of alternatives to avoid disruption of solid dosage formulations of hazardous medications outside of pharmacy.
- Identify characteristics that would lead to the classification of a medication as hazardous.
