Ericka Breden Crouse,
PharmD, BCPP, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist,
Virginia Commomwealth University Health System
Ericka L. Breden, PharmD, BCPP, CGP, FASCP is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in psychiatry and has appointments as a clinical associate professor with the Department of Psychiatry and School of Pharmacy at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, VA. She is the Director of a PGY-2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency program. Her primary practice areas are inpatient geriatric and medical psychiatry. Dr. Breden obtained her PharmD from the University of Florida, and completed both a geriatric residency and a psychiatric residency. She also serves on the ASHP Educational Steering Committee for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists.

Dr. Dopheide is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California Schools of Pharmacy, and Medicine. She is actively involved in teaching pharmacy students, medical students and psychiatry and pharmacy residents through didactic and clinical teaching.
Dr. Dopheides clinical practice is divided between adults, adolescents and children with psychiatric illness. As part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, Dr. Dopheide makes recommendations to optimize treatment for psychiatric illnesses including schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, chronic insomnia and substance abuse. She routinely counsels patients and families on how to get the most benefit with the least side effects from their psychotropic medications.
Dr. Dopheide is actively involved in the advancement of the pharmacy profession through her work with the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP), the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) and through collaboration with the National Alliance of the Mentally (NAMI).
Dr. Dopheide obtained her PharmD from the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy in Omaha and went on to complete a residency in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice at the University of Southern California Medical Center. She has over 40 publications on topics in psychopharmacology and clinical pharmacy. A Nebraska native, she now considers Southern California her home and enjoys rooting for both the Cornhuskers and the Trojans during football season.

Christopher Thomas,
PharmD, BCPP, Residency Program Director of PGY-1 and PGY-2 (Psychiatry) Programs,
Chillicothe VA Medical Center
Dr. Thomas is the clinical pharmacy specialist in psychiatry and residency program director of the PGY-1 and PGY-2 (Psychiatry) residencies at the Chillicothe VAMC. He is also appointed Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Board Certified in Psychiatry, Pharmacotherapy, and Geriatrics, Dr. Thomas completed his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. He completed a specialty pharmacy practice residency in psychopharamology/psychiatric pharmacy practice at the Cleveland VAMC.
Dr. Thomas research interests and publications involve catatonia and the role of glutamate, the role of norepinephrine and glutamate in agitation, aggression, and anxiety disorders, and the use of antipsychotics in the dementia population.
He is an active member in several pharmacy organizations and has served in various leadership roles with the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists. He has spoken at over 300 local, regional, and national meetings on various psychiatric and pharmacy topics.

- Explain the CMS statement regarding over-utilization of antipsychotics in the long-term care setting and efforts to improve dementia care.
