Peter Gal,
PharmD, BCPS, Director, Neonatal Pharmacotherapy Fellowship and NICU Pharmacology Research Laboratory,
Cone Health and Greensboro AHEC
Peter Gal is currently Director, Graduate Pharmacy Education Division, Greensboro Area Health Education Center. He received his BS in Pharmacy from St. Johns University in New York (1975), and his Pharm.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo (1977). He served as Assistant Professor on the faculty at Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia from 1977-1979. In 1979, he became AHEC Pharmacist in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was subsequently appointed Clinical Associate Professor (1983), and Clinical Professor (1989) at UNC School of Pharmacy. He began practicing in Neonatal Pharmacotherapy in 1977, and continued this practice at Moses Cone Health System in 1979. He also created the Neonatal Pharmacology Research Laboratory at Moses Cone Hospital in 1983, and created and directs the Neonatology Pharmacotherapy Fellowship at Womens Hospital (Moses Cone Health System) since 1992. Other clinical practice experiences include: Clinical Pharmacist for Family Practice Teaching Service 1979-1995; Polypharmacy Clinic in Family Practice Teaching Service 1993-1995; Guilford County Department of Public Health Asthma and Epilepsy Clinics 1982-1988; and Asthma Clinic at Rockingham County Health Department 1996-present. Honors recognizing his clinical practice excellence include: the Clinical Practice Award from ACCP in 1990, and the Richard A Helms Award from PPAG in 2008. He was also made a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy in 1990, American Society of Health System Pharmacists 1997, and Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group in 2011. He was also a founding member of the Pharmacotherapy Specialty Council, Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties, American Pharmaceutical Association 1989-1993, and helped create the inaugural BCPS exam and credentialing process. He has numerous presentations at national and regional meetings. Primary research activities include: neonatal pharmacotherapy, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics. He has authored over 150 articles and textbook chapters. He also serves a reviewer for several medical and pharmacy journals and on the editorial board for two pharmacy journals.

Sherry Luedtke,
PharmD, FPPAG, Associate Professor,
Texas Tech HSC School of Pharmacy
Dr. Luedtke is one of the founding faculty members of the School of Pharmacy and is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice. She also serves as the Director of the Pediatric Specialty Residency program. Dr. Luedtke received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Wisconsin. She completed her practice residency at Meriter Hospital and pediatric specialty residency at the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Luedtke is involved in ongoing studies evaluating drug utilization in the neonatal intensive care unit and documentation of clinical pharmacy services for the pediatric population. Dr. Luedtke has given numerous presentations locally and nationally in the areas of immunizations and neonatology and is currently involved in several ongoing studies evaluating clinical pharmacy services for pediatric patients. She provides clinical pharmacy services in neonatology and general pediatrics at Northwest Texas Childrens Hospital. Dr. Luedtke has received state and national awards for her practice and was recently recognized as a Fellow of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG).
She has been strongly involved in professional organizations supporting pediatric pharmacotherapy including service as a Past President of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG). She currently serves as the Associate Editor for the Journal of Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

Christopher McPherson received his PharmD from the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy. He completed a fellowship in neonatal pharmacotherapy under the mentorship of Dr. Peter Gal. Currently, he is a clinical pharmacist in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Additionally, he is a scientist in the Washington University Neonatal Development Research Lab.

Neonatal Sepsis - Optimization of Antimicrobial Therapy/Trends in Diagnosis and Management, Peter Gal, PharmD, BCPS, FASHP
Management of Progressing Neonatal Sepsis, Christopher McPherson, PharmD
LEARNER OUTCOMES:
- Define hypotension in the preterm infant and recommend management.
- Describe how to utilize biological markers to identify neonates with sepsis.
- Identify a neonate with disseminated intravascular coagulation and evaluate the role of antithrombin III.
- Optimize the antibiotic regimen for a premature infant diagnosed with sepsis.
- Recommend the appropriate use of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and intravenous immune globulin in the management of neonatal infections.
