Joel Marrs,
PharmD, BCPS, Assistant Professor,
University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
Dr. Joel Marrs is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Colorado, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist with Added Qualifications in Cardiology. In addition he is a Clinical Lipid Specialist recognized by the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology and a Fellow of the National Lipid Association (NLA). Currently, he is a Board Member of the Southwest Chapter of the NLA. Dr. Marrs received his PharmD degree from Butler University. Following his PharmD degree he completed a postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) pharmacy practice residency at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio and a PGY2 Family Medicine Specialty residency at the University of Colorado in Denver, Colorado. In his current position, Dr. Marrs practices as a clinical pharmacy specialist with Denver Health in an internal medicine clinic where he focuses on cardiovascular and metabolic pharmacotherapy.

Joseph Saseen,
PharmD, BCPS, Professor and Vice Chair,
University of Colorado
Dr. Saseen is a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Family Medicine at the University of Colorado. He is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist, is a Certified Lipid Specialist, and is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the National Lipid Association, and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Dr. Saseen received his B.S. pharmacy degree and PharmD degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed an ambulatory care research fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago/University of Colorado. Dr. Saseen practices as a clinical pharmacy specialist in family medicine at University of Colorado Hospital. Dr. Saseen is the Director of an ASHP accredited PGY-2 Ambulatory Care/Family Medicine Pharmacy Residency and is Director of the ACCP Career Advancement Academy. His research and scholarly activities focus on preventive cardiovascular pharmacotherapy, health outcomes related to chronic diseases, and rheumatology. Dr. Saseen is the incoming chair of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, an at-large member of the Board of Directors for the National Lipid Association and is also Secretary of the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology. He been the recipient of several teaching awards, most recently the University of Colorado Chancellors Teaching Excellence Award in May 2011.

Joseph Vande Griend,
PharmD, Assistant Professor,
University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science
Dr. Joseph Vande Griend graduated from the University of Iowa with his Doctor of Pharmacy in 2005. He completed both PGY1 (Pharmacy Practice) and PGY2 (Family Medicine) training at the University of Colorado Hospital and School of Pharmacy. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and is a geriatric clinical pharmacist at the University of Colorado Seniors Clinic. At the clinic, he provides medication therapy management (MTM), performs drug therapy consultations, and serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents. His research interests include Geriatric Pharmacotherapy and the provision of innovative clinical pharmacy services in primary care with a focus on the elderly population.

- Evaluate challenges with the application of the updated guidelines when treating hypertension, dyslipidemia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
- Identify clinical controversies regarding the benefits of treating hypertension, dyslipidemia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
- Interpret and apply the new guidelines to the management of patients with hypertension, dyslipidemia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in specific patient population.
