Burl Beasley,

Burl Beasley is currently Manager, Pharmacy Informatics for Community Health Systems serving as a resource in the implementation, deployment and monitoring of electronic health care products related to Meaningful Use and the HITECH Act. Previously Mr. Beasley served as the Medication Safety Officer at a 380 bed hospital of which he also provided clinical pharmacy services. Mr. Beasley has worked to improve patient safety with the implementation of a Pharmacy Falls Prevention Program which was recognized with and ISMP Cheers award in 2007 as well as a best practice by ASHP in 2008. He has presented on the topics of Medication Reconciliation and Falls Prevention at ASHP and the Oklahoma Society of Health System Pharmacists.
Mr. Beasley graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BS in Pharmacy and went on to earn a Masters in Public Health, Health Administration and Policy. He then received his Masters degree from the University Of Florida College Of Pharmacy with a concentration in Patient Safety and Risk Management.

James Besier,

James L. Besier is the director of pharmacy at Owensboro Medical Health System. He received his B.S. Pharmacy and M.S. Pharmacy Administration from the University of Cincinnati and Ph.D. from Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, OH. Jim currently holds faculty appointments at the College of Pharmacy and College of Nursing at the University of Cincinnati and the College of Pharmacy at the University of Kentucky.

Gregory Burger,

Greg Burger earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy (BSP) degree at the University of Kansas in 1990 and his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) in 1991. He is a Charter Member of Kansas Council of Health-System Pharmacists (KCHP). Currently he is serving as District #3 Director for KCHP. He was a member of the Kansas Pharmacists Association (KPhA) and the Kansas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (KSHP) from 1990 to 2007. In 1998 he received the Kansas Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the year award from KPhA. He is currently a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), Greater Kansas City Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GKCSHP), and the Association of Asthma Educators.
Dr. Burger has been a clinical pharmacist at Lawrence Memorial Hospital (LMH) for the last 20 years. In the summer of 2009, he helped to develop the smart pump library for LMHs new infusion pumps and in the fall of 2009 he assisted with the build for LMHs computerized physician order entry system, which went live in March of 2010. He is also the Medication Use/Safety preceptor for LMHs Residency Program.
Dr. Burger has given many lectures on Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease over the last 15 years. These lectures have been given at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy, the University of Kansas School of Nursing, the Kansas Lung Association, and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, Greater Kansas City Chapter. He is also currently an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor for the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Burger is an avid distance runner. He has completed more than 25 marathons and 25 ultra-marathons in the last 18 years. His running accomplishments include completing the New York City Marathon and the Boston marathon 3 times in the late 1990s and more recently finishing the Leadville Trail 100 Run and Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run.

Richard Capps,

Richard Capps, PharmD is the Medication-use Systems and Technology Manager for the Greenville Hospital System and is primarily responsible for pharmacy automation, technology and compliance. Richard has over twenty years experience in pharmacy management and has been with GHS since 2000.
Richard is a graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. He was awarded his Doctorate of Pharmacy from Mercer School of Pharmacy in Atlanta and completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Emory University Hospital. In 2007, Richard completed the GSK Executive Management Program at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and Graduated from the ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Leadership Academy in 2010. Richard is an active member with ASHPs Section on Pharmacy Informatics and Technology.

Jeff Chalmers,

Jeff has worked in hospital pharmacy for 14 years, with the last 5 years in the informatics field. He manages the pharmacy informatics team for the Cleveland Clinic Health System, a 11 hospital system with an integrated electronic medical record, interfacing with a various types of pharmacy automation. His team is responsible for medication related build/maintenance/workflow management throughout the health system in both the inpatient and outpatient areas.

Melissa Frank,

Northeast Georgia Medical Center
Melissa Frank currently serves as the clinical coordinator and PGY-1 residency program director at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA. Melissa obtained her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and completed an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital & Clinics (MCG Health) in Augusta, GA. Prior to her current position, she served as the NICU clinical pharmacist at MCG, and then as the clinical specialist for Women and Childrens Health at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

John Horn,
PharmD, Professor of Pharmacy,
University of Washington
Dr Horn is a Professor of Pharmacy in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy and an Associate Director of the University of Washington Pharmacy Services. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Cincinnati. He has authored over 175 articles related to drug interaction mechanisms, clinical outcomes and management, and application to clinical decision support. He is co-author of two widely used reference texts dealing with drug interactions; The Top 100 Drug Interactions; A Guide to Patient Management, and Hansten and Horns Drug Interactions Analysis and Management. These references have been translated into 6 languages and distributed to health care practitioners world-wide.
In addition to curating drug interaction references, Dr. Horn has participated in developing standardized methods of evaluating potential drug interactions and outcome-based criteria for rating the potential significance of drug interactions. He is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and a member of the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists. He is currently Chair of the Drug Interactions Specialty Panel for The Annals of Pharmacotherapy, a member of the editorial board of Pharmacotherapy, and serves as a reviewer for several medical and pharmaceutical journals.

Victoria E. Noonkester received her PharmD from Midwestern University in 2011. She recently completed her post-graduate year one (PGY1) at NorthShore University HealthSystem based at Evanston Hospital. She is currently a post-graduate year two (PGY2) specializing in Informatics with NorthShore University HealthSystem.

Robert Silverman,

Department of Veterans Affairs
Rob Silverman is a program manager for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) office of Clinical Informatics. In this role, Rob represents the VA in a variety of perspectives related to pharmacy informatics. These range from providing guidance and direction for enhancements to VistA, the VA's electronic health record, to development of some programming changes that are in place across the VA. PBM and the VA have been involved with early ePrescribing efforts in partnership with the DEA for over 10 years, including a long-running pilot for electronic transmission of C-II prescriptions from the CPRS system to VA medical center pharmacies.
During the past year, Rob is proud to have been a presenter at VAs virtual conference, the VA eHealth University (VeHU) sessions now available publicly on the internet at MyVeHUCampus. His sessions include detailed training on the same ePrescribing topic, and introduction of a relatively new feature within the VA electronic medical record which allow creation of customized real-time order checks.
Rob is a graduate of Drake University, and now lives in Carol Stream, Illinois with his wife and two sons, and anxiously awaits the return of baseball season.

Nancy Smestad is a graduate of North Dakota State University College of Pharmacy with a Master of Science degree in Pharmacy Practice. Ms. Smestad has been employed by the Veterans Health Administration for 29 years and is currently an Informatics Pharmacist Consultant with the Office of Informatics Patient Safety.

Andrew Trella,

Dr. Trella is Director of Pharmacy at Lehigh Valley Hospital- Muhlenberg in Bethlehem, PA. He is a graduate of the Doctor of Pharmacy program at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill and his professional interests include enhancing direct pharmacist communication with patients and their families, involving students in the medication reconciliation process and leveraging technology to improve operations. Outside work, he can typically be found on the golf course or following Tar Heel basketball.

Laura is an ASHP residency trained pharmacist with 30 years of experience in hospital pharmacy operations, administrative leadership, pharmacy informatics and home infusion and home health/hospice care. With strong background knowledge of software and automation technologies that promote medication safety and secure drug distribution management systems, her accomplishments relate to modernization of hospital pharmacy distribution systems and integrated medication management solutions. She has experience in the development of clinical pharmacy service programs (hospital and home-health care based) and has experience with implementation of electronic health records. Prior to joining the software vendor QuadraMed as Clinical Pharmacy Product Advisor in 2008, she rose to the level of network pharmacy director for a 4 hospital health system in Pennsylvania responsible for all inpatient and outpatient medication services for hospitals ranging in size from 55 beds to 500 beds. As a team player, she has successfully led, managed and/or participated in multi-disciplinary teams around common themes related to medication and patient safety. Her focus includes integrated medication management technology such as Bar-code Medication Administration (BCMA) projects and Computerized Prescriber Order Entry (CPOE) technology. She brings the end-user voice to QuadraMed for Product Management, Development, Sales Support, and Client Services departments. Laura also represents a vendor pharmacist perspective within the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) - Section for Informatics and Clinical Advisory Group.

Kieu-Loan (Loan) M. Vu, Pharm D, MBA, graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Sciences with a Bachelor of Sciences in Pharmacy and Doctorate of Pharmacy. She received her MBA from the Executive MBA Program at St. Joseph University.
Dr. Vu is an experienced director of pharmacy, and she served as an Adjunct Pharmacy Practice Professor at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. As director of pharmacy, she successfully led and managed the pharmacy department of the organization, including responsibilities for problem-solving, team building, administrative, financial, quality services, legal/ regulatory, and performance and productivity management.
Dr. Vu is a progressive leader in healthcare industry with expertise improving hospital services in pharmacy operations, clinical pharmacy, pharmacy information systems and pharmacy automation to meet/exceed regulatory requirements. She is a visionary who effectively leads and motivates diverse teams while managing organizational changes. Dr. Vu continues to develop her career as she is currently studying Healthcare Quality and Safety at the Jefferson School of Population Health at Thomas Jefferson University.

Kathy Yount,

Kathy Yount, RPh is a BSPharm graduate of Purdue University. After graduation she was employed with Provena United Samaritans Medical Center where she served 15 years as a hospital pharmacist. Ten of those years she worked in the capacity of an informatics pharmacist, implementing and maintaining the pharmacy application and BCMA for a single site electronic health record. In 2009, Kathy began employment at Carilion Clinic as a Clinical Pharmacist Analyst, maintaining and implementing a multi-site, inpatient and outpatient electronic medical record. Kathy serves as an informatics elective preceptor for several Virginia and West Virginia Schools of pharmacy and is a 2012-2013 member of the ASHP Section Advisory Group on Pharmacy Informatics Education.
