Description
Whether described as small, rural, regional, or community, the number of hospitals that are not located in large campus urban settings is increasing. These facilities may or may not have central plants or the quantity of engineering staff as their larger brethren. The challenges in managing energy versus the regulatory and good practice requirements are very similar. This presentation focuses on applying the commissioning process and advanced energy savings techniques to smaller facilities with a case study example of Sullivan County Community Hospital.
Speakers will present a streamlined process based on both ASHE and ASHRAE commissioning guidance published in the last couple of years. The examples of how these processes were applied will be site specific and address lighting, ventilation, HVAC operation and other energy reduction opportunities considered.
By attending this session one should be able to answer the following questions.
1. Commissioning
o What is the commissioning process and how can it apply to existing hospitals?
2. Lighting
o What are the opportunities for lighting improvement and energy savings?
3. Ventilation Optimization
o What opportunities exist for energy savings within the ventilation systems? How does one comply with ASHRAE Standards 170 and 62?
4. Heating and Air Conditioning Efficiency
o How can existing HVAC systems be revised without breaking the bank on new equipment? What are the opportunities for tuning, repurposing, or upgrading selected parts of the HVAC control systems?
