Leo M. Gehring, CHFM, CHC, FASHE
Leo Gehring has invested over 40 years in teaching, consulting and operating in the healthcare facilities and construction. He formed Gehring Health Facility Resources (GHFR) in 2009. GHFR specializes in helping healthcare facilities and construction departments reach their highest service potential and operational productivity. The advances are achieved thru an in-depth evaluation of the current operations, recommending necessary improvements and then managing the change process.
He currently serves as a member of the ASHE Faculty teaching in the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager, Healthcare Construction Certificate and the Healthcare Construction Project Management programs. He also serves as a Senior Staff Consultant for Safety Management Services (SMS) and as a Senior Advisor for Advanced Technologies Group Inc. (ATG).
He was a Consultant for Joint Commission Resources specializing in helping healthcare teams reach successful performance levels in the Environment of Care, Life Safety and Emergency Management standards.
He retired in September 2008 as the Vice Chancellor for Campus Operations at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he was a member of the Executive Management team serving on the Chancellors Cabinet. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is an Academic Medical Center containing over four million square feet.
Prior to joining the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences he formed Gehring Healthcare Enterprises. The firm provided management system development; compliance assessment and environment of care management consulting to healthcare delivery organizations and to healthcare service support companies. He authored a monthly JCAHO survey strategies column for Facility Care magazine.
Prior to Gehring Healthcare Enterprises, Leo was the Director of Facilities Management for the University of Chicago Hospitals. The University of Chicago is an Academic Medical Center containing 3.5 million square feet.
He was elected President of the Arkansas Association for Hospital Engineering in 1992 and in 2000 he was elected to serve as the Region Seven Board of Directors member for ASHE. He was elected as the 2007 President of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering.
He became a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) in 2001, a Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) in 2010 and a Fellow (FASHE) in the American Society of Healthcare Engineering in 2007.

This session will provide essential knowledge to successfully manage a health care construction project. The presentation will emphasize the major project elements and delivery sequences of planning, budgeting, scheduling, design, and construction. This session will enable you to:
Manage a health care facility construction project through all stages of the process.
Identify the major delivery stages of the health care planning, design, and construction (PDC) process and explain the significance of each.
Implement the PDC budgeting and scheduling process and describe the expected outcomes.
Differentiate among construction delivery processes and select the appropriate delivery process for your project.
