In 2008 Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin initiated an energy management program for its hospital portfolio to reduce operational costs. The organization achieved a savings of $7 million through a 15 percent energy reduction between 2008 and 2012. The presenters will discuss how health care providers can implement an effective energy management program with limited capital resources. This session will enable you to:
Describe initial steps to implementation of an energy management program, including energy benchmarking, gaining management buy-in, and goal-setting.
Develop energy management strategies, including prioritizing energy savings initiatives, estimating implementation costs, predicting savings, and using grants to offset costs.
Describe the tangible benefits of an energy management program and how to sustain those benefits.
Identify example improvement measures taken at specific sites as part of an energy management strategy.
