Description
Mayo Clinic is developing two proton beam therapy cancer treatment facilities and will ramp up eight pencil beam scanning gantries between 2015 and early 2017. To develop these two sites, Mayo Clinic chose to use the the integrated project delivery method to maximize the collective talents, resources, and collaboration techniques of the owner, architects, construction managers, subcontractors, and proton equipment vendor. This session will enable you to:

Discuss the integrated project delivery process and the benefits of using it on a complex design and construction project.
Describe the issues to be considererd to assure a building can accommodate installation of proton therapy equipment.
Participate in proton equipment vendor selection and sales agreement and operations and maintenance agreement negotiations.
Define proton “pencil beam” scanning and explain when it might be adopted by a facility.

  • Define proton "pencil beam" scanning.
  • Describe the advantages for cancer care with Protons versus traditional X-Rays (Photons)
  • Learn the Owner's perspective on Integrated Project Delivery Lite (IPD Lite) and Early Lessons Learned.
  • Understand an Owner's process for proton equipment vendor selection, Sales Agreement and Operation & Maintainance Agreement negotiations, and the Equipment to Building Interface process.
