She has 8 years of prior consulting experience as President of SBM Consulting, Ltd. She is a Fellow of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association. Previous positions include Director of Safety and Compliance for ASHE, and Associate Director, Standards Interpretation, Environment of Care Standards, for The Joint Commission.

Description
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has changed the Hazard Communication Standard with significant updates to material safety data sheets and chemical labeling. In addition, the Joint Commission is looking more closely at hospital compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) training for those signing manifests for hazmat shipment. This presentation will outline the OSHA changes and provide suggestions for hospital compliance as well as review the DOT training requirements. The session will enable you to:
Identify the changes in the 2012 revision of the Hazard Communication standard and compare it to the 1994 standard.
Plan implementation activities to comply with the updated OSHA requirements by the required dates and identify two means to meet the DOT training requirement.
Explain why the Joint Commission is interested in DOT training for signing manifests.
Identify two ways to meet the DOT training requirement.
