Description
This case study will review a 15-month renovation project for one of the most vulnerable patient settings—a bone marrow transplant unit. The importance of involving infection prevention experts in daily upkeep of a health care facility as well as during construction and renovation projects of all sizes will be discussed. This session will enable you to:

Describe infection prevention precautions required for projects from minor renovations to major construction and recognize breaches in these precautions.
Identify breaches in infection prevention precautions during construction and the resulting risks to patients.
Improve collaboration between the facility management and infection prevention teams.
Explain the necessity of involving infection preventionists in both the daily upkeep of a facility and construction and renovation projects.

  • Describe health risks to patients from various types of projects from minor daily repairs to large renovation projects.
  • Explain the necessity of involving Infection Prevention in both the daily upkeep of the facility as well as major construction and renovation projects.
