Description
As blood management programs and genotyping become increasingly common approaches, immunohematology reference laboratories (IRLs) are challenged to maintain their revenue streams while reducing operational costs and assisting hospital clients to reduce their costs as well. IRLs are also facing a workforce transition from highly-experienced serologic gurus to less experienced but very talented and more technology-savvy laboratory professionals. This session will explore ways in which IRLs can reinvent themselves to remain relevant and profitable in a world where the future of molecular immunohematology is now.
-
Discuss the best practices for cost-effective and clinically sound IRL workups that leverage antigen-matched solutions in concert with traditional serologic sleuthing approaches.
-
Examine strategies, costs, and benefits of moving toward a fully pheno/genotyped blood center inventory, including labeling and reimbursement considerations.
-
Explore the role of hospital and blood center physicians in defining the standard of care for preventive antigen-matched RBC transfusions.
