Collect to need strategies being utilized at Innovative Blood Resources,
Description
Why is this needed now? In recent years, the hospital demand for blood products has decreased. As a result of this demand shift, as well as the need to adapt during an economic downturn, it was quickly determined that blood collections and inventory par levels needed to be adjusted to better match hospital demand and actual patient need. In addition, changing industry standards have made it more difficult to provide the right product at the right time. Blood suppliers are being driven to develop more efficient and cost-effective processes by aligning recruitment and collection efforts with product distributions. To achieve a successful collect-to-need strategy, the right product must be collected on the right day, of the right ABO/Rh type and right amount to meet demand. This session will demonstrate how two large blood centers have created daily recruit and collect-to-need strategies that revolve around robust communication of hospital demand, recruitment, collection, manufacturing and distribution by ABO/Rh.
-
Analyze the challenges of successfully implementing both a recruit and collect-to-need strategy, as well as the joy and pain of creating improved processes to better serve our customers and community.
-
Describe effective measurement and feedback mechanisms that reinforce and sustain collect-to-need strategies.
-
Identify improvements realized by collecting the right products, on the right day, of the right ABO/Rh type.
