Journey to Employee Engagement
Description
Everyone dreads performance evaluations! While managers are often reluctant to provide candid feedback to help the employee improve performance, employees frequently come away from the performance evaluation believing their efforts werent recognized and evaluated fairly. This results in an unsatisfying experience for both employee and supervisor. The session presenters will describe how one transfusion service used a calibration approach to standardize performance appraisals. In this case, calibration is defined as the application of the same standards to all employees through the use of multiple supervisory forums. Over a three-year period, this approach has resulted in improved compliance with the strong ratings system and has improved employee satisfaction with the evaluation process and outcomes. Our experience with this method helps to address two goals of performance evaluations: one, to recognize an employees contributions and two, to identify specific areas that need improvement.
