This session will discuss Regent University's data management policies and best practices for integrating Banner students, faculty, courses, and registration including drop/adds into the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS). We will examine account and course naming conventions, data organization and ownership, and methods we have implemented for disabling and purging information from Blackboard using Banner business rules as the primary driver. We will also compare the pros and cons of the batch import versus Blackboard's snapshot synchronization methods along with the database and operating system processes we have designed to manage the entire workflow using Banner as the point of origin for all course-related data. We have been successfully using this automated process for more than five years to maintain data synchronization between Banner and the Blackboard LMS.
