Description
Duquesne University, an institution with over 10,000 undergraduate, graduate, law and pharmacy students, went live with Banner in fall 2007. Degree evaluation was not part of the original implementation, since we were not using that functionality in our legacy system. When charged a year later to implement a degree audit system with limited financial resources, CAPP was the best option.
The Blues: Working with outside consultants, members of the academic community spent six months building CAPP requirements. The system was made available to advisors with the expectation that they could work out any issues before making CAPP available to students the following year. Unfortunately, the new tool was not embraced, no post-build testing was done, curriculum changes were not maintained, and the decision was made to suspend the project until appropriate resources were available.
Jazz: Two years later, our administration wanted to revisit CAPP 8.4, but given the economy, no additional funds were available. Collaboration between the Registrar's Office, Enrollment Research, Advisors, and IT led to a successful phased-in rebuild and go-live of CAPP for staff and students. CAPP builders and Project managers are invited to come hear how we reached our goal and the lessons learned during the implementations.
