Description
How does a hybrid program create an engaging and successful learning community for both students and faculty? This is a common question among many institutions looking to develop hybrid or fully online programs. The answer largely depends on the goals of the program, student participation, and the faculty. All three must compliment each other to be effective. This presentation will discuss the experiences of creating a hybrid learning community for Pepperdine University's new Hybrid Online Master of Arts in Social Entrepreneurship and Change. We will address elements including the first face-to-face session and how to get the most of out of the limited time we had in front of the students. How the program is designed to create a learning community and foster a successful learning experience. How we encouraged the students to look at the technology tools as learning tools. Finally, we will discuss how we addressed potential barriers to instruction and the continuous support for the students.
