How did Fred Rogers approach STEM concepts in his factory videos and field trips--and how can we build on that in our work with children?
Track : Science
Program Code: 208470
Date: Friday, November 4, 2011
Time: 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM  EST
Location: W 312 C
SPEAKER :

Description
STEM may be a new concept in early childhood, but it's an approach that Fred Rogers used all through his television series. Let's explore what he did and use his approach in a developmentally-appropriate way to introduce children to STEM concepts -- in a way that makes teachers more comfortable with subjects like science, technology, engineering and math -- and also helps make the children's learning more meaningful. Then we'll find ways to help children build on those STEM experiences using discussions, scientific inquiry, hands-on activities, literacy, and the arts.
