Description
Child care is a natural setting for promoting and administering screening tools to identify undetected delays that can be ameliorated with appropriate intervention. Through Project LAUNCH (Linking Activities for Unmet Needs for Children’s Health), the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) supports 24 sites across the country in implementing a wide range of child wellness activities, including developmental screenings. In this interactive session, participants will learn how local Project LAUNCH sites develop and implement screenings systems in their communities and work to sustain those systems by engaging state and local early childhood leaders and decision-makers. We will discuss lessons learned about the importance of building broad participation among early childhood service providers (e.g., child care, primary care providers, public schools) in staff training, collaboration, and data-sharing activities. Participants will leave with a list of screening resources, information about Project LAUNCH sites in their states (where applicable), and ideas of how to link to existing local systems of screening or initiate their own screening protocols.
