Description
Internships have long been known as a valuable way for students to gain experience. This program, however, will describe a serious investment made by Bank of America, two UNC Charlotte colleges, the Career Center, and university at large to pilot a 17- month vehicle for readily utilizing high-potential tech savvy college talent, and immersing them in the corporate culture just a few blocks away from campus in a dedicated facility. Students engage in learning from managers directly as well as from faculty through a credit program and various levels of interning/paid work experiences. A guiding board consisting of Senior Leaders from the bank and the university and a weekly ongoing working committee developed this program through multiple phases piloted at UNC Charlotte. The depth and breadth of the program as well as the integrative commitment is what makes it unique. Serving as a tool to attract top technical talent to colleges and to the financial industry, it is an excellent example of what is needed to reinvigorate our economy by partnering colleges, universities and employers to this challenge advocated in the book, Innovation Generation.
