Pryor & Bright’s (2005) Chaos Theory of Careers (CTC) denotes a paradigm shift in career counseling and development. Instead of focusing solely on matching and/or developmental concepts, CTC describes how career development is complex, uncertain, and chaotic. Using Chaos Theory of Careers helps prepare students to be more comfortable with the changes that will come in their career pathways and thus be more flexible workers throughout their lifetimes. Learn how one university career center implemented Chaos Theory of Careers into their career development services and integrated CTC concepts into practice. In this interactive session, we will outline the fundamental principles of Pryor & Bright’s Chaos Theory of Careers. We will also encourage participants to share best practices, analyze different approaches, and develop action plans for using Chaos Theory of Careers in their work.
