Description
On many college campuses, the gap has long existed between student affairs and faculty. This session will introduce an advising model at Carnegie Mellon University where a Committee on Undergraduate Affairs was formed in the Mellon College of Science to bridge the gap and allow for complete and holistic student advising. This group is comprised of a mix of key faculty members, a career counselor, and a student affairs liaison who have come together to form a unique and collaborative approach to advising. During this session we will explore the composition of this committee and how the model is implemented at each stage of the student’s college experience from the time he or she is admitted through graduation and beyond. The outcome identifies how this community based advising model provides significant benefits to the student, the advisors, and the university.
