Description
Does service-learning provide as much skill development and career readiness as internships? Does federal work-study employment have equal potential for career readiness as internships? Experiential education programs, traditionally defined as internship or co-op work experiences, provide students with professional, real-world experience tied to their academic course of study. In recent years, additional work and community-based experiences have been seen as areas with potential value for students. This session will feature a program model of experiential learning, which includes academic internships, service-learning, and community-based federal work-study. In addition, we will review the results of a year-long study, funded by the NACE Research Foundation, on the impact of experiential education programs on career readiness, values-based competencies, and work-related skill sets.
