Learning Objectives:
  1. Explain an overview of the orexin system and define its role in comsummatory behaviors.
  2. Outline recent advances in the development of novel orexin 1 receptor antagonists as potential small molecule therapeutics for addiction.
  3. Describe the role of hypothalamic peptides in anorexia and feeding behavior.
  4. Discuss the role of orexins in the behavioral switching that occurs when dehydration anorexia is terminated.
