Brown Adipose Tissue
Track : Track 1 — Metabolism and Integrative Physiology
Program Code: 302
Date: Tuesday, October 4, 2011
Time: 10:45 AM to 12:15 PM  EST
SPEAKER (S):
Jan Nedergaard, Stockholm University
Shaun Morrison, Oregon Health and Science University
Denis Richard, Universite Laval
Description

Learning Objectives:
  1. Discuss the determinants of brown adipose tissue prevalence and activity in adult humans
  2. Explain the potential role of brown adipose tissue thermogenesis in energy expenditure and obesity in humans
  3. State the neural pathways through which the brain normally alters the level of BAT energy expenditure, primarily for thermoregulatory goals
  4. Delineate CNS sites and identify neurotransmitters systems through which the level of BAT energy expenditure is controlled and could be modified pharmacologically
