Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the recent FDA approval expanding use of the gastric band for obese adults who have failed to lose weight with diet, exercise, and pharmacotherapy and who have a BMI of 30 to 40 kg/m2 and one additional obesity-related co-morbid condition, such as diabetes or hypertension.
- Discuss how patients who elect to have this surgery must make the commitment to accept significant changes in their eating habits for the rest of their lives.
