Learning Objectives:- Discuss the published literature on the relationship between breastfeeding and obesity.
- Discuss the potential mechanisms and threats to the validity of this relationship.
- Describe the potential modifiable determinants of gestational weight gain emphasizing the degree to which race, cultural background and body image influences weight gain.
- Identify the gaps in our understanding of what influences weight gain in order to design interventions to promote adequate weight gain during pregnancy.
