Leptin Resistance: What is it?
Track : Track 1 — Metabolism and Integrative Physiology
Program Code: 103
Date: Sunday, October 2, 2011
Time: 10:15 AM to 11:45 AM  EST
SPEAKER (S):
Barry Levin, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey
Martin Myers, University of Michigan
Rudy Leibel, Columbia University
Description

Learning Objectives:
  1. Define the various usages of "leptin resistance" and when it is appropriate to use the term.
  2. Define mechanisms that decrease responsiveness to leptin in states of obesity.
  3. Define the unique proteins that affect the trafficking of the leptin receptor to the cell surface and alter leptin sensitivity
  4. Discuss methods by which manipulation of the neonatal and adult environment can increase leptin sensitivity by increasing cell surface expression of the receptor.
