Dr. Alex Stagnaro-Green graduated from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1983. Following a residency in Internal Medicine at New Jersey Medical school he completed a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In 2005 he received a Masters of Health Professions Education at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Dr. Stagnaro-Green is an internationally known researcher in the field of thyroid disease and pregnancy. In 1990 Dr. Stagnaro-Green reported in JAMA the seminal finding linking thyroid antibody positivity in euthyroid women to a doubling of the rate of spontaneous miscarriage. His research focuses on thyroid antibodies and miscarriage, the relationship between thyroid dysfunction and preterm delivery, and postpartum thyroiditis. He presently chairs the American Thyroid Association (ATA) Task Force on Thyroid and Pregnancy and leads an international ATA initiative to develop clinical guidelines for thyroid disease in pregnant women. Dr. Stagnaro-Green is also an accomplished medical educator and has led comprehensive curricular reform at multiple institutions including the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New Jersey Medical School, and Touro University College of Medicine. Dr. Stagnaro-Green has extensive experience with medical school accreditation and has served as a team member and team secretary on numerous Liaison Committee on Medical Accreditation (LCME) site visits. Dr. Stagnaro-Green has published on a wide variety of topics in medical education. Presently he is senior associate dean for education at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences where he is Professor of Medicine and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
