Christopher R. McCartney, MD, is Assistant Professor of Medicine (Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism) and member of the Center for Research in Reproduction at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, VA. After earning his medical degree and completing Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Mississippi, Dr. McCartney completed an Endocrinology and Metabolism fellowship at the University of Virginia Health System. He earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Research shortly thereafter. Dr. McCartney’s clinical research focuses on (a) the role of progesterone in directing GnRH secretion in peripubertal girls and women, both in the presence and absence of hyperandrogenemia; (b) mechanisms controlling diurnal (wake vs. sleep-associated) GnRH pulse frequency during puberty and in adults, both in the presence and absence of hyperandrogenemia; and (c) mechanisms of obesity-associated hyperandrogenemia in peripubertal girls.
