John S. Adams, M.D. is Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the UCLA/Orthopaedic Hospital Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is co-appointed as Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology in the UCLA College of Arts and Letters. Dr. Adams is Director of the Orthopaedic Hospital Research Center, where he is charged with building an interschool (the UCLA College and School of Medicine), multidisciplinary program of research in musculoskeletal sciences. His bench-to-bedside (translational) and clinical research efforts are targeted at understanding 1] the concerted role of heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins and heat shock proteins in hormone-directed chromatin remodeling, transcription, transcript splicing and miRNA regulation of mRNA handling, 2] the role of vitamin D in the human innate and adaptive immune response, and 3] the contribution of human vitamin D insufficiency to states of immuno-insufficiency and abnormal skeletal and energy homeostasis.
