Dr. Virginia M. Miller is Professor of Surgery and Physiology in the College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic. She received her Ph.D. in physiology from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO and held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Virginia and the University of Delaware before coming to the Mayo Clinic. She received her Master's of Business Administration from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Miller was the first director for the Office of Women’s Health at Mayo during which time she secured Mayo’s participation in the Kronos Early Estrogen Prevention Study (KEEPS). In addition to this project, her current research focuses on effects of inflammation on platelet functions and the contribution of biologically-derived nanoparticles to arterial calcification. She has published over 170 original manuscripts, 24 book chapters, 21 review articles and given over 90 invited lectureships. In addition to her research and mentoring activities, she serves on the Editorial Boards for several cardiovascular journals including Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, The American Journal of Physiology: Heart and Circulatory Physiology, Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Stroke. She has been an Associate Editor for Journal of Applied Physiology and has served on numerous grant review panels, including study sections for the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association. She served as a member of the governing council for the American Physiological Society (APS) and is currently the President for the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences (OSSD)
