Michael McDermott is Professor of Medicine and Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Colorado Denver Health Sciences Center and is the Director of the Endocrinology and Diabetes Practice at the University of Colorado Hospital. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1974 with a BS in Chemistry and obtained his medical degree from Tulane Medical School in 1977. He did his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency from 1977-1980, and his Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship from 1980-1982, all at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. He spent 20 years in the US Army during which he was the Chief of Endocrinology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center from 1993-1997 and he served as the Endocrinology Consultant to the Surgeon General from 1994-1997. He retired from the US Army in 1997 and joined the faculty at the University of Colorado. Dr McDermott is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is a member of The Endocrine Society, The American Diabetes Association, The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, The International Society for Clinical Densitometry, and The American Thyroid Association. His primary research interests include novel approaches to the management of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and the evaluation and management of Osteoporosis.
