John Monson, is Emeritus Professor of Clinical Endocrinology at St. Bartholomew�s Hospital, QMUL, United Kingdom and Consultant Physician at the London Clinic Centre for Endocrinology. He was formerly Lead Clinician for Endocrinology at St Bartholomew�s Hospital and Centre Lead for Academic Clinical Endocrinology in the William Harvey Research Institute at Queen Mary, University of London. Professor Monson received his undergraduate education at Guy�s Hospital Medical School, University of London graduating in 1973 and undertook specialist training at St George�s Hospital, London and The London Hospital Medical College. As lecturer in metabolism and endocrinology at The London Hospital he worked with Professor RD Cohen on the mechanism of uptake of lactate by hepatocytes and this formed the basis of his MD thesis. He was appointed Consultant/ Senior Lecturer in 1982 and Reader in Metabolism and Endocrinology in 1994. He became Reader in Medicine at St Bartholomew�s Hospital Medical College in 1995 and Professor of Clinical Endocrinology at Queen Mary, University of London in 1999. He has served as a member of the Clinical Committee and Council of the UK Society for Endocrinology. Professor Monson�s research interests include the metabolic effects of growth hormone in hypopituitary adults; the effect of growth hormone on cortisol metabolism and interrelations with body composition; adolescent to adult transition in patients with pituitary disease; management of functioning pituitary tumours; and the impact of thyroid hormone on bone metabolism. He has published in The Lancet, Journal of Clinical Investigation, British Medical Journal, Clinical Endocrinology, and The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism and has served on the editorial boards of Clinical Science, Hormone Research and Clinical Endocrinology. Professor Monson has also been an invited lecturer throughout Europe and the United States of America. He holds membership in several professional organizations, including the Endocrine Society USA, the Growth Hormone Research Society, the Society for Endocrinology, the Medical Research Society, British Thyroid Association, the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland and the European Neuroendocrine Association. Professor Monson is currently Emeritus Professor and Consultant Physician at The London Clinic Centre for Endocrinology, 5 Devonshire Place, London W1G 6HL.
