Dr John S Bevan BSc (Hons), MB ChB (Hons), MD, FRCPEd
• Dr Bevan was appointed Consultant Endocrinologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Aberdeen University in 1991. He was promoted to Reader in Endocrinology in 2006.
• Dr Bevan qualified MB ChB, with Honours, from Edinburgh University in 1978 and his clinical training in General Internal Medicine & Endocrinology took place in Edinburgh, Oxford and Cardiff (1979-1991).
• As Head of Endocrinology at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Dr Bevan has responsibility for coordinating endocrine care across the North of Scotland, including the Orkney and Shetland Islands. He is Regional Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE). He was elected as a RCPE Council member in 2006, representing the North of Scotland.
• Dr Bevan has been a member of the Clinical Committee of the UK Society for Endocrinology since the committee was first convened in 1997. He is National Coordinator for Peer Review of Clinical Endocrinology in the UK. He is a member of the UK Acromegaly Database Steering Group and Secretary/Treasurer to the Clinical Endocrinology Trust. He was Associate Editor of Clinical Endocrinology (1994-2004) and became Senior Editor in January 2008.
• Dr Bevan has a longstanding interest in clinical neuroendocrinology, particularly the use of medical therapies for human pituitary tumours. He has written extensively on medical treatment for prolactinoma, non-functioning pituitary tumours and acromegaly. He hopes there will be effective medical therapies for all pituitary tumour types by the time he retires from clinical practice!
• Outside medicine, his interests include cricket, ornithology and family life.
