Description
On October 2, 2006, the world changed for one small community and to the First Responders who arrived to assist on the scene of the Amish school shooting in rural Pennsylvania. This presentation will first show you how this incident unfolded with audio clips from Pennsylvania State Police personnel who responded to the scene, Clips from the media documenting what happened, and the Member Assistance Program response to those first responders. No one who was associated with this incident left unscathed. This fateful day touched everyone involved, the parents of the children, the Amish community, police officers, EMTs, etc., including our own employee assistance personnel. Hear how this day changed their lives forever.
Objectives:
• describe the role that the internal EA program filled during this incident;
• discuss the necessity of manditory policies within the organization which and made a difference with personnel getting help;
• describe the impact of this incident and indicators that officers benefitted from EA services.
