Description
Sleep disorders have a significant impact on job performance, affecting lateness, absenteeism, focus, concentration, interpersonal relationships, safety and fitness for duty. They also contribute to a lowered quality of life and poor health. Drowsy employees endanger their own and co-workers lives, and expose their employers to possible litigation. Shift workers are vulnerable to sleep disorders and often use alcohol and other substances to induce sleep. This session will show how EA professionals can conduct short "sleep screenings, how to build programming, identify resources, educational materials, websites, and techniques for follow-up coaching. Case examples will be utilized to demonstrate interventions.

Objectives:
• identify employees at high risk of sleep disorders by short sleep screenings;
• interpret health information into a "sleep disorder profile";
• organize data and community resources to make referrals for medical treatment and follow-up.
