Description
This interactive presentation addresses the growing concerns of addiction among Boomers. Chemical dependency in this age group is linked to high rates of dual diagnosis. Effective treatment addresses physical/mental status and generational values. The effects of aging with the use of alcohol, prescribed medicines and illicit drugs create a complex profile. Workshop participants will explore: chemical dependency assessment and diagnosis; specific therapies; engaging Boomers in their own recovery, and the role of the family in recovery. Many Boomers will be part of the workplace for some time to come, and sustaining health in all aspects will be crucial.

Objectives:
• describe the changes necessary to effectively treat the aging Baby Boomer generation for chemical dependency;
• apply front line practical knowledge in identifying substance abuse treatment options and supporting recovery from substance abuse in the 50+ population;
